    It’s been years.

    Ever since we all went our seperate ways, it’s like I never even knew you. I can’t bear to say this to your face, so I guess I’ll just have to speak through letters. I miss you, more than I can explain. I miss your stupid jokes, your odd ways of doing things, the way you used to nick my clothes without asking, how you used to tell me I was your bestfriend until death. What happened to us? We’re practically strangers.

    The fact you replied made me smile. Like you said, maybe meeting up would be a good thing for the both of us, but.. It’s not that I don’t want to, but, I can’t. I really can’t. That’s why I’m going to stick to writing you letters. That way, you can keep everything I said to you. Hope you, El and the kids are all okay. Tell them Uncle Harry misses them. Have you heard from any of the other boys recently? I miss them all too - hope they’re all doing okay. I’m sorry though, that I can’t meet up, I really am.

    Thankyou for being so understanding - I knew you would be. How was Jamie’s first day at school? They’re all growing up so fast! I remember when you called me with the news about your first child, do you? You were so excited. Such a long time ago! 

    Lou, I wish I could tell you why I can’t meet you, but it’s got to stay confidential. If I could tell you, I would, you know I would. You’ll find out soon enough, just hold on.

    Dear Tommo,

    I don’t feel it’s fair not telling you. You’re my bestfriend, you always have been and always will be, so you deserve to know.

    About a year and a half after the band split up, I was diagnosed with cancer. Thing is, by the time they received the diagnosis, it was too late. It’d spread too much, and they said there was nothing they could do apart from keep me prescribed to painkillers and medication. I was told yesterday I have around 2 weeks left at the very most, 3 if I’m extremely lucky, but I’d probably need a miracle.

    I’m not writing from home, Lou. I’m writing from the hospital, my hospital bed. I’ve been here for 5 weeks. It’s gone so slow, but writing to you has kept me going. Your letters have been putting a smile on my face, Louis. Thankyou.

    No, please don’t come and see me. I couldn’t bear to let you see me like this. It’s torn my family apart. I never really had a lover, so I’ve been almost alone. If it wasn’t for my mum and sister and a few family friends, I’d have been going through this on my own, and I wouldn’t have coped. I hope you understand why I don’t want you to come. I don’t want you seeing me like this.

    Think about everything we did together. All those headline tours all over the world, the number one albums and singles, the brotherhood. We did it all together. Remember me for the good things, not the bad.

    Look after Mum for me, she’ll struggle for a while.
